Massage Therapy

Chiropractic has been shown to work better in conjunction with massage therapy. This makes sense.  If muscles are tight and strained, chiropractic alignments are going to be more difficult.  And after having an adjustment, tight tissues are going to try and return the body to it's rigid ways.

Massage therapy.

At our office we use two types of massage therapy.  The first is the type you think about when you say massage.  The relaxing "ahhhh!" that you get when you have a massage from a massage therapist.  Our therapist, Janine Prichard, works on many patients in our office.  Some patient's like to get massage therapy from Janine before being adjusted.  Others like the feeling of massage afterwards.  Still others get massage with no adjustments.  All of these are valid options.

At other times pain comes on more quickly, and there is no time to get a massage therapy appointment set up.  But we still would like to have the availability of having our patient's get a massage before getting adjusted.  That is why we have a hydro-massage machine.  Hydro-massage is taking a hot tub without getting wet.  The warm jets of water help calm and relax our patient's before they are seen by the doctor. When they are relaxed the machine lifts up and they emerge, dry and relaxed as if they just spent a day in the spa.

If you aren't getting massage therapy done with your chiropractic care, you don't know what you are missing.  Chiropractic is a wonderful type of care, and feels good, but massage therapy takes our chiropractic adjustments to a whole new level.  If you've had it done in our office, you know what we're talking about.

Dr. Chris Asks some important questions of interest to Anacortes residents - Chiropractor Anacortes Dr. Chris Asks...

What's the difference between sick care and health care?
Sick care is largely about relieving or suppressing symptoms. Health care is about improving performance. While sick care is about how you feel, health care is about how you function. Sick care is what you do to treat an obvious problem, and health care is what you do to avoid the problem and advance your well-being.
What's the difference between a "good" drug and a "bad" drug?
As a chiropractor, I see the use of many drugs (legal or illegal) as merely symptom treating. Worse, virtually every drug produces unwanted effects. The effects of chiropractic are largely positive effects. If you're a Anacortes parent, consider carefully before giving your child a cough medication, cold remedy or pain reliever so this sort of question doesn't arise in the first place.
